    Leiden / Boston / Paderborn / Singapore / Beijing – 17 January 2019

Brill is proud to announce that the Yearbook of International Organizations Online has made Choice magazine’s 2018 list of Outstanding Academic Titles. Selected by Choice review editors, this awarded title is representative of Brill’s rich publishing program and accomplishments in digital publishing.

The selective Outstanding Academic Title list includes only 10% of some 6,000 works reviewed each year. The awarded titles have been selected for their excellence in scholarship and presentation, the significance of their contribution to the field, and their value as an important— often the first—treatment of their subject. For more information about their selection criteria, please visit the Choice website.

    Yearbook of International Organizations Online

The yearbook provides a comprehensive database of intergovernmental (IGOs) and international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) worldwide. It covers over 75,000 international organizations and is updated on a regular basis by a dedicated editorial team at The Union of International Associations.

From Choice´s review of the yearbook:
“The Yearbook of International Organizations is the definitive directory of more than 75,000 governmental and non-governmental nonprofit organizations worldwide, including both active and dormant entities. […] The fact that the organizations themselves are the principal sources speaks to the credibility of the information in the profiles […] the annual subscription to the digital version is the obvious choice […] Summing Up: Highly recommended.”
    - D. Ettinger, George Washington University, in Choice, vol. 55, no. 7 (March 2018).

Choice is an important resource for reviews of academic books, electronic media, and online resources of interest to those in higher education. Choice is a publication of the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL), a division of the American Library Association (ALA). More information about Choice.

EBSCO Information Services and the American Library Association Award Five Scholarships for Librarians to Attend ALA Midwinter
~Scholarship Enables Librarians to Expand Professional Development Opportunities at National Conference ~

IPSWICH, Mass. — January 10, 2019 — EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) has awarded five librarians with $1,000 scholarships to attend the 2019 ALA Midwinter Conference in partnership with the American Library Association (ALA). The scholarships aim to defray the cost of travel and other expenses, helping librarians take advantage of the conference’s professional development and networking opportunities.

The scholarship winners include three first-time attendees from the United States:
    • Carla Myers, Assistant Professor and Coordinator of Scholarly Communications, University Libraries, Miami University, Miami, Ohio

    • Danielle Osterdorf, Electronic Resources Librarian, Anschutz Medical Campus, University of Colorado, Aurora, Colorado (first-time attendee)

    • Jill Hofmockel, Teacher-Librarian, Iowa City West High School, Iowa City, Iowa

    • Vanesa Evers, Reading Specialist/Digital Projects Library Intern, Drexel University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (first-time attendee)

    • Vickie Coyle, School Media Specialist, All Saints Catholic School, Manassas, Virginia (first-time attendee)

As part of the application process, librarians were asked to write an essay about how they plan to make a mark on their profession, while facing some of the current challenges libraries are undergoing. They were also asked to share how attending the conference will contribute to their professional development. First-time conference attendee, Vickie Coyle of All Saints Catholic School, wrote about the importance of networking. “My goal in attending the Midwinter ALA Conference would be to network with exhibitors and colleagues to extend to NVCLA librarians innovative methods that would utilize digital tools to promote equitable access to resources. I strongly advocate that all students have access to high-quality learning materials with the most relevant content.” Applicant Jill Hofmockel from Iowa City West High School talked about her goals if she were to attend ALA Midwinter. “My hope is to return with a renewed plan and a toolkit for providing support and advocacy for all teacher-librarians in the state.”

EBSCO is dedicated to supporting the library community around the world and maintains a long-standing tradition of co-sponsoring scholarships to ALA conferences that provide funds for conference registration, travel and expenses. The scholarship recipients will be honored by EBSCO and ALA representatives during the conference at a scholarship breakfast.

ByWater Solutions, an open source community contributor and America’s forefront provider of Koha support, announced today that the Koha OPAC Search and Circulation Integration with RBdigital content will be available for libraries for Spring of 2019.

The new integration will allow users to check out, check-in, search for titles and place holds on their items directly through the Koha OPAC. This new enhancement will allow libraries to display RBdigital content, including audio books, e-books and magazines, without the need to upload MARC records into the catalog.

Once the user performs a search on the OPAC, if results are found in RBdigital, users can follow a link to another screen in the OPAC which displays current holdings and availability.
