EBSCO Information Services and Stacks Inc. Accepting Entries for the Academic Library Website Makeover Contest
~ Winning Entry Receives Three-Year Library Website Makeover ~

IPSWICH, Mass. — January 22, 2019 — EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) and Stacks Inc. (Stacks) are now accepting applications for the Stacks Academic Library Website Makeover Contest. One winner will receive a free three-year library website makeover, including a consultation with Stacks to assess the library website needs, a three-year subscription to the Stacks platform and three years of customer support. Entries must be received by April 2, 2019.

Stacks, a hosted, turnkey web content management system designed specifically for libraries, will work with the winning applicant to create a website that offers a relevant and robust user experience tailored for their students’ and administrators’ needs. As part of their submission, entrants are asked to include information about the challenges that students and library administrators face with their current library website.

President and CEO of Stacks Inc., Kristin Delwo, says the award will help a qualified academic library create a powerful and effective website for its students. "Addressing the wide range of issues academic librarians face as they seek to deliver resources and services to researchers is a great way for us to showcase how Stacks can make a difference for librarians and their end users. I am most interested to see the variety of challenges librarians identify and match them up with solutions from Stacks."

EBSCO Vice President of SaaS Strategy Tamir Borensztajn says Stacks is a great way to pull together resources and address service needs. “As discovery services invite a less siloed approach to content and as libraries compete with the online searching expectations of their users, Stacks is able to provide a turnkey solution that drives usage and improves the user experience.”

Applicants can submit entries via the EBSCO website at: https://more.ebsco.com/website-win.html. To enter the contest, entrants must be an employee of an academic library in the United States or Canada and be at least 18 years old. The Stacks Academic Library Website Makeover Contest will run from January 22, 2019 through April 2, 2019.

The First Global Peer-Reviewed Academic Resource on LGBTQ History

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – January 22, 2019 – Gale, a Cengage company, has released the Global Encyclopedia of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) History. This new encyclopedia is the first authoritative academic resource of its kind with an international focus on the history of the LGBTQ community. Now libraries can provide students and researchers with the most current and reliable global content on LGBTQ history, enabling greater understanding and open dialogue on the topic. Check out the blog post by Howard Chiang, Editor-in-Chief of the Global Encyclopedia of LGBTQ History: http://bit.ly/2sDva50.

"Gale created the Global Encyclopedia of LGBTQ History to address the lack of academic, international LGBTQ content available for libraries and researchers,” said Paul Gazzolo, senior vice president and general manager at Gale. “While other reference titles exist on LGBTQ topics, this new encyclopedia is the first authoritative academic resource that truly provides a global perspective on LGBTQ history.”

The Global Encyclopedia of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) History is a three-volume, set that delivers a worldwide view of the LGBTQ experience, covering prominent figures and events globally in areas such as activism, art, literature, film, health and sociology across nearly 70 countries. It’s written by academics who not only have subject matter expertise, but also regional expertise in the field of LGBTQ theory.

Read the chapter, “The Art of Queering Asian Mythology”: http://bit.ly/2MnmhFF.

    • Up-to-date, hard-to-find content on LGBTQ history, all in one reference title.

    • Extensive coverage of nearly 70 countries, with additional countries represented throughout the encyclopedia.

    • More than 1,800 pages that complement university courses in a variety of disciplines, including history, literature, psychology, sociology, American studies and others.

    • 383 entries written by academics from around the world, with nearly half of entries written by international contributors, representing 35 different countries.

    • 316 full-color photos and illustrations, including a thematic outline and comprehensive index.

    • Rich cross-referencing to help students and researchers make connections between entries.

Università di Napoli “l'Orientale” has transferred its publishing activities for the classical philological journal AION-Sezione di Filologia e Letteratura Classica to Brill, the international scholarly publishing house.

AION: Annali dell'Università degli Studi di Napoli "L'Orientale", Sezione di Filologia e Letteratura Classica is a journal in the field of philology, literature, history of Greek and Latin texts and their transmission throughout the centuries, with an eye to the Ancient Eastern world, Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages. The journal was founded in 1979 by the Dipartimento di Studi del Mondo Classico e del Mediterraneo Antico of the Università di Napoli “l'Orientale”.

Classical philology and literature have traditionally been one of the pillars of Brill’s publishing program in the Humanities, which makes AION a great addition to the Classical Studies program. The journal’s editor-in-chief, professor Amneris Roselli, is confident that the journal will reach the international audience it deserves by publishing with Brill: "We are very pleased that after a journey of 40 years, AION-Sezione di Filologia e Letteratura Classica has found a new harbour at Brill. The journal will continue to advance research on Greek and Latin literature, with special consideration of the Mediterranean context in which it developed. The Editorial Board remains dedicated to further develop the journal as a platform for extensive international collaboration and looks forward to this new phase of its journey with confidence."

The first issue of AION published with Brill is 40.1 (2018) and is available online on brill.com/aion, and in print. AION welcomes articles in English, French, German and Italian and aims at academic readers, libraries and cultural institutions interested in the ancient world.
