Brill publishers has launched three new titles in its successful suite of review journals, Brill Research Perspectives, on the subject of Religious Studies. The first issues are planned for 2019 and will become available online and in print.

Brill Research Perspectives in Religion and Politics, edited by Jocelyne Cesari, University of Birmingham and Georgetown University, is focused on research that addresses contemporary debates on religion and politics in a particular national or regional context or in a comparative way across religions or political contexts.

Brill Research Perspectives in Religion and Psychology, edited by Ralph W. Hood, Jr., University of Nevada, Reno, presents extended articles on theory and the integration of empirical data that bridge the gap between humanities studies and those of psychological science. It provides up-to-date information on the diversity of approaches and methods that psychologists are applying to illuminate the wide range of phenomena that either define or are associated with religion in individual cultures and globally.

Facet Publishing announce the publication of Records and Information Management, 2nd edition by Patricia C Franks.

Patricia C Franks is an associate Professor in the School of Library and Information Science (SLIS) at San Jos̩ State University in California, where she serves as the Master of Archives and Records Administration (MARA) Program Coordinator and the SLIS Internship Program Coordinator. ~ Overall Effective Publisher Price Increases Expected to be in the Range of Five to Six Percent ~

IPSWICH, Mass. — September 20, 2018 — The 2019 Serials Price Projection Report from EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) is now available. The report projects that the overall effective publisher price increases for academic and academic medical libraries are expected to be in the range of five to six percent (before currency impact). EBSCO releases the Serials Price Projections Report based on surveys of a wide range of publishers and reviews historical serials pricing data to assist information professionals as they make budgeting decisions for the renewals season.

The Serials Price Projection Report looks at market dynamics highlighting many topics that impact the scholarly information marketplace, including library budget challenges, government mandates, political climates, collection assessment and evaluation tools, Open Access (OA), publisher consolidation, publisher business models, increased publisher competition for content and organized piracy.

The 2019 serials marketplace continues to see steady, annual publisher price increases, with no indicators this will change. Library budget growth remains a top concern, generally lagging behind annual inflation in journal pricing in spite of the annual price increase caps applied to many e-journal packages.

According to key economic indicators, the U.S. economy is doing well with steady growth, low unemployment and little inflation. Though overall budgets in the U.S. academic library market show modest improvements, the budget for serials materials generally have not kept pace with annual journal price inflation. Outside the U.S., instances of continued library budget contraction continue.

Although the serial price forecasts are based upon careful analysis, EBSCO recommends caution when using these projections, as they rely on historical trends and current estimates. EBSCO will update the projection information if economic conditions warrant it.

Facet Publishing announce the release of Bibliotherapy, edited by Sarah McNicol and Liz Brewster.

Bibliotherapy has developed over the past 100 years, but the premise remains the same: that information, guidance, and solace can be found in books. Bibliotherapy schemes have been offered in UK public libraries and healthcare and community settings since the early 2000s, providing access to selected written materials which it is hoped will have a positive effect on mental health and wellbeing.

Liz Brewster and Sarah McNicol’s new book explores the history and theory of bibliotherapy for the first time, illustrating the contemporary debates amongst researchers and explaining how these relate to the work of bibliotherapy practitioners. A key focus of the book is on methods of offering bibliotherapy for diverse audiences, including homeless populations, psychiatric patients, non-native speakers and people living with dementia.

Bob Usherwood, Professor Emeritus at The University of Sheffield said, “This life-affirming text is essential reading not only for those concerned with bibliotherapy but for all who believe in the value and potential of library services in the modern world.”

The book includes case studies from around work illustrating how particular approaches to bibliotherapy can be used across different settings including, communities living with HIV/AIDS in South Africa, homeless people in Australia, socially vulnerable patients, particularly those with drug-use problems in Uruguay and speakers of English as an additional language in England.

Sarah McNicol is a Research Associate at the Education and Social Research Institute, Manchester Metropolitan University. She has worked as an Information Studies researcher since 2000 and she previously worked as a school librarian. At present, much of her research is focused around the use of graphic comics and novels to explore a range of issues, in particular health and wellbeing.

Liz Brewster is a Lecturer at Lancaster Medical School, Lancaster University. Her research focuses on experiences of mental health and wellbeing, particularly how creative activities such as reading may affect mental health. She has previously worked in academic and public libraries.
