North Bethesda, MD, May 30, 2013- The Central City Public Library, located in Central City, NE, has joined the Pioneer Consortium and will participate in the Pioneer LibLime union catalog for all collection and patron management services.

The Central City Public Library staff will work with LibLime Project Managers to migrate bibliographic, item, and patron data from its legacy ILS system. Central City Public Library will enjoy autonomy within the LibLime Koha union catalog, as LibLime Koha includes support for local ownership of patron records, local ownership of items records linked to communal bibliographic records, and OPAC group searching for pre-designated collections. Central City Public Library patrons will also benefit from other functionality in the software sponsored by Pioneer, such as Enriched EDI for acquisitions and expanded fines and fees support in circulation.

    About the Pioneer Consortium
The Pioneer Consortium continues to expand the number of members that share the LibLime Koha union catalog. The successes of the early members of the consortium are noticed by more and more libraries around the state and the consortium membership continues to grow. One of the main attractions is access to the LibLime Koha union catalog.

IPSWICH, Mass. / BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — May 28, 2013 — EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) and Gale, part of Cengage Learning, have agreed to make Gale databases and archives discoverable through EBSCO Discovery Service™ (EDS). The agreement allows EBSCO to index Gale metadata and make it discoverable for mutual customers through EBSCO Discovery Service.

“Gale is committed to working with the discovery services our customers rely on in order to drive usage and ensure all users benefit from the leading content within our products,” said Jim Draper, vice president and general manager, Gale. “Our goal is to make Gale content discoverable to library end users regardless of where they begin their search, and we’re excited to be working with the EBSCO Discovery Service to make that happen.”

EBSCO Information Services President Tim Collins says adding Gale content to EDS results serves more library customers and expands the access for end users searching EBSCO Discovery Service. “As EDS expands to more and more libraries, we continue to seek out content partnerships to improve the service and to make sure users are seeing the most relevant content from the best providers.”

Libraries using EDS will benefit from easier access to their Gale databases, e-books and archives. The agreement includes metadata for Gale’s largest databases and archives such as Gale Virtual Reference Library, Eighteenth Century Collections Online, Nineteenth Century Collections Online, Infotrac, In Context databases, and more. Partners also include content providers, such as LexisNexis, Thomson Reuters (Web of Science), JSTOR, ARTstor, Credo Reference, Encyclopedia Britannica, World Book, ABC-CLIO, The Hathi Trust and many others.

EBSCO Discovery Service creates a unified, customized index of an institution’s information resources, and an easy, yet powerful means of accessing all of that content from a single search box—searching made even more powerful because of the quality of metadata and depth and breadth of coverage.

EBSCO Discovery Service is an obvious partner for content providers. Because the service builds on the foundation provided by the EBSCOhost® platform, libraries gain a full user experience for discovering their collections/OPAC—which is not typical in the discovery space. Further still, in the many universities and other libraries where EBSCOhost is the most-used platform for premium research, users are not asked to change their pathways or habits for searching. There’s simply a lot to discover on the familiar EBSCOhost platform, and the same can be said for library administrators who can leverage their previous work with EBSCOadmin™.
