~ DynaMed™ Chosen as Primary Point of Care Resource for NHS Scotland’s Knowledge Network~

IPSWICH, Mass. — July12, 2012 — NHS Education for Scotland has selected DynaMed™ from EBSCO Publishing (EBSCO) as its preferred point of care resource for all NHS Scotland staff and students. NHS Education’s Knowledge Network had offered DynaMed, as well as other point of care resources, to its users but recently selected DynaMed as the primary point of care resource due to its comprehensive coverage and frequent and reliable updates.

NHS Education develops and delivers education and training for those who work in NHS Scotland. Senior Knowledge Manager, Derek Boyle, says they were very impressed with DynaMed’s content and coverage. “Research indicates that DynaMed was more frequently and reliably updated than any other point of care resource, it is very comprehensive in its coverage and offers a facility to support Continuing Professional Development.”

Boyle says DynaMed’s linking capabilities played a big part in NHS Education’s decision as well. “We were also pleased that DynaMed offered links to many full-text international guidelines, including NICE and SIGN, Cochrane systematic reviews, research and review articles, PubMed abstracts and patient information. DynaMed will also support NHS Scotland in exploring the potential to embed links with clinical (electronic health record) systems.”

Another contributing factor to their decision to implement DynaMed as the primary resource was due to a recent report in KLAS that rated DynaMed higher than other disease reference tools. Survey respondents indicated that DynaMed excelled in the credibility of the information it provided and in the relevance of its information.

Highlighting librarians’ valuable contributions to users and their libraries — “Looking for the Silver Lining: Positive Outcomes from Troubled Times”

Birmingham, Ala. — July 12, 2012 — EBSCO is sponsoring a $1,000 scholarship for a qualifying librarian or paraprofessional to attend the 32nd Annual Charleston Conference: Issues in Book and Serial Acquisition, which will be held Nov. 7-10, 2012, in Charleston, S.C.

In keeping with the conference’s 2012 theme, “Accentuate the Positive,” this year’s essay topic is “Looking for the Silver Lining: Positive Outcomes from Troubled Times.” Applicants are asked to submit short essays detailing how a potentially negative situation ultimately yielded a positive outcome as a result of implementing resourceful strategies. In other words, the librarians should reveal how they or their institutions took lemons and made lemonade. Some examples: adopting new models of collection development; streamlining technical services processes in response to staffing or resource changes; embarking on collaborative projects that led to enhanced services with other departments or institutions; or developing new offerings to better serve users, such as providing enhanced mobile applications, deploying patron-driven acquisitions (PDA) or a discovery service.
Each applicant must currently work as a librarian or paraprofessional and provide the following information:

* One professional recommendation
* A curriculum vitae
* The short essay described above (up to 1,000 words)

In December 2011, Brill launched two new platforms: referenceworks.brillonline.com and bibliographies.brillonline.com. In the meantime, Brill decided to end the parallel running period. This means that the old platform, brillonline.nl, is no longer in use, and Brill’s reference works and bibliographies are available only on the new platforms.

All products previously on brillonline.nl have all been moved to the new platforms for reference works and bibliographies that are part of the BrillOnline.com platform family. This includes top titles such as the Encyclopeadia of Islam Online, New Pauly Online, the Index Islamicus and Religion Past and Present Online.
New products and product updates are and have already been taken place on the new platforms, e.g.
