    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
    Glenn Peterson
    glenn@engagedpatrons.org

EngagedPatrons.org announces Author Alerts!, a new title notification service for public libraries. Author Alerts! sends an email or text message alert to patrons when the Library orders a new book by their favorite authors/performers.

"The service is dead simple," said Author Alerts! founder Glenn Peterson. "Patrons use a simple web form to enter the names of their favorite authors or performers. When a new title is ordered by the Library the service sends an email or text message to the patron." Email messages include more detail about the title and a direct link to the Library catalog. In addition to authors, patrons can place alerts on performers, musical groups, film studios and more.

"Today's patrons have many choices for reader's advisory information and staying relevant can be a challenge for libraries," says Peterson. "Author Alerts! helps reinforce the Library as the go-to source for information on new titles. Links to the catalog drive patron traffic to the Library website to place requests.

"Patron will love getting the first word about forthcoming titles by popular authors. But equally important, patrons won't miss new titles by authors they love who don't appear on bestseller lists. Patrons often have no reliable way of finding new titles by less popular titles without frequently checking the Library catalog."

EngagedPatrons.org provides web services for libraries, including Author Alerts!, events management, summer reading programs and more. Since 2006, EngagedPatrons has contributed it's services at no cost to small and medium size libraries.

The Converse Free Library Goes Live on Koha with ByWater Solutions

ByWater Solutions, an open source community supporter and the U.S.’ forefront provider of Koha (www.koha-community.org) support, announced today that the Converse Free Library in Lyme, New Hampshire is now live on their installation of the Koha integrated library system.

ByWater Solutions completed their migration in late June and will be providing ongoing support and hosting services for them.

The Converse Free Library has a collection of over 25,000 book, periodical and media titles. Their customized online catalog can be viewed here: http://catalog.converse.bywatersolutions.com.

Brendan Gallagher, CEO of ByWater commented on the new partnership:

“As always, we’re happy to welcome a new library to the ByWater family. We are excited to get to work with the staff at the Converse Free Library in supporting and promoting open source software for libraries.”

    About The Converse Free Library:
Lyme was established by a charter in 1761; the first library was formed on January 20, 1778 and called “the Social Library in Lime”. In 1908, the town voted to support a public library called the Lyme Town Library. By 1936, the library had outgrown its space in the Lyme School and the town accepted a bequest to build a separate library building across the street in memory of Sidney Converse, to be called the Converse Free Library. An addition was added to the building in the early 1980s.

The collection today includes about 22,000 books, 800 videos and a similar number of audiobooks. The library functions as the school library also, sharing its resources with the Lyme Elementary School across the street through the efforts of the librarians in each building. For more information about the Converse Free Library please visit: http://lymenhlibrary.org

The Journal of Librarianship and Scholarly Communication (JLSC) joins a growing number of journals and publishers in implementing the Almetric badge on its article pages. Altmetric provides a means of capturing and tracking the online conversations generated by scholarly articles. The informal impact of scholarship, particularly within librarianship, is overlooked by formal measures like citation counts; the Altmetric score looks at tweets, blog posts, citation managers and other online sources that indicate interest in each article.

The first issue of JLSC was published in May 2012. As an open access journal, JLSC provides a shared intellectual space for scholarly communication librarians, institutional repository managers, library publishing managers, digital archivists, digital data managers and related professionals.

The editorial team at JLSC is committed to not only publishing work about changes in scholarly communication, but also to actively experimenting with new tools and services like Almetric that bring clarity and context to scholarly publishing and digital scholarship.

North Bethesda, MD, July 12, 2012 LibLime, a division of PTFS, and WALDO (Westchester Academic Library Directors Organization) announce the production release of LibLime Academic Koha 5.0. All WALDO member libraries will undergo production upgrades over the next few weeks.

LibLime Academic Koha 5.0 provides the basic platform for true authority control in the application. Authorized fields on bibliographic records are now controlled by their ruling authority record. Edits or updates to the authority record are now globally updated throughout the database. MARC authority rules are in place for creation and use of authority records. Subfield 0 of the authorized field in a bibliographic record is now used properly for linking back to the authority record controlling the field. Coupled with the Authority Record import functionality from version 4.8, library staff can now update machine-generated authority records with valid authority records as part of their workflow.

LibLime Academic Koha 5.0 provides initial RDA support for the content, media, and carrier data fields. Additions to existing indexes make access to this RDA data available to researchers through OPAC and staff searching. RDA support will continue to expand under the guidance of the WALDO member Technical Services staffs.

LibLime Academic Koha 5.0 also expands on a few existing features, including:
    • expansion of local XSLT control to include holdings information
    • more efficient tracking of ‘Lost’ items on patron records
    • expansion of partial fines support which lets staff select where the partial payment is applied
    • expansion of Course Reserves to allow staff to retain a course list during ‘off’semesters

As with earlier releases, all new functionality in all of LibLime Academic Koha continues to run in the Plack environment for increased performance.

The PTFS LibLime Division then facilitates deployment of Koha in libraries by providing outstanding consulting, development, implementation, and support/hosting for libraries of all types and sizes.
