    Leiden / Boston / Paderborn / Singapore / Beijing – 11 June 2020

The German branch of Brill has acquired the portfolio of German publishing house DIE BLAUE EULE, established in Essen.

By signing the transaction agreement, Eva-Maria Hohmann, owner of publishing house DIE BLAUE EULE, and Jörg Persch, managing director of Brill Deutschland GmbH, conclude the takeover of the publishing program as of July 1, 2020. DIE BLAUE EULE was founded in 1983 by Werner L. Hohmann in Essen, with a focus on Philosophy and Art Studies. Later, the research areas Musical Studies and Music Pedagogy were added to this program.

Eva-Maria Hohmann sees the future of the publishing house's well-established program secured by the sale: "After the unexpected death of my husband, who founded the publishing house DIE BLAUE EULE in 1983, I have pursued the goal of placing the publishing house in good hands. Now I am delighted that Brill Germany is giving DIE BLAUE EULE and its authors a future in the rapidly changing media landscape".

Jörg Persch adds: "We consider it a great honor that Mrs. Hohmann entrusts us with her life’s work and that of her husband and founder of the publishing house, and we will look after it carefully and sustainably".

The publishing house's program will be integrated into the portfolio of Brill Deutschland GmbH, to which the imprints Ferdinand Schöningh, Wilhelm Fink and mentis belong. The acquisition includes a backlist of approximately 1400 book titles and 14 active book series. For Brill Deutschland GmbH, this represents a valuable expansion in the areas of Philosophy, Art and Musical Studies, and Education. Through the connection to the parent company in The Netherlands with branches in Boston, Singapore and Beijing, the publications will in the future also be distributed internationally and increasingly digitally.

For more information about this take-over please contact Stephan Kopsieker, Press Department / Public Relations at Brill Germany, via kopsieker@brill.com.

EBSCO Information Services’ Usage Consolidation™ Supports COUNTER R5
~ EBSCO Information Services Develops Features to Improve Usage Reporting ~

IPSWICH, Mass. — June 9, 2020 — EBSCO Information Services’ (EBSCO) Usage Consolidation™ service now supports COUNTER R5 providing comparison tools and new ways for librarians to analyze and manage usage reporting.

EBSCO Usage Consolidation’s COUNTER R5 support includes features that transform previously loaded R4 usage into corresponding R5 metrics to allow year-on-year comparisons to continue even as content providers transition to the new release. Library staff will be able to take advantage of new COUNTER Release 5 attributes like Year of Publication and Access Method in their consolidated reporting workflows. SUSHI Harvesting has been enhanced to support multiple harvest frequencies (annual, bi-annual, quarterly, monthly), and EBSCO also includes an intelligent “ready to load” feature that allows staff to see which platforms need usage loaded.

EBSCO is also making configuring platforms to harvest easier with preloaded information, such as URLs and reports supported. Librarians will also be able to see which platforms EBSCO’s Usage Loading Service™ handles for their institution and which platforms are managed by the institution. In addition, EBSCO’s COUNTER R5 support makes usage data immediately available in the subscription workflow via EBSCONET® Subscription Management.

EBSCO Information Service’s Chief Product Strategist Oliver Pesch says EBSCO has improved how essential information is viewed by library staff to save time. “One unique thing we do is to transform the COUNTER R4 usage to allow librarians to analyze their usage from time periods that span a content provider’s transition from R4 and R5. By offering a truly consolidated view of usage, our customers are able to make the apples to apples comparison in a more intuitive workflow — bringing essential information together in a way that improves how library staff assess their collections and usage.”

Usage Consolidation is part of the EBSCO Knowledge Services suite offering a state-of-the-art set of workflow management tools for libraries and includes Holdings & Link Management, Full Text Finder, and Publication Finder, as well as the “IQ” Services which enable customization and integration. EBSCO Knowledge Services are powered by the EBSCO Knowledge Base and are focused on removing data siloes and integrating with library management tools including FOLIO and CORAL.

Duluth, Ga., June 4, 2020: Equinox Open Library Initiative announces the development of Curbside Pickup for libraries using Evergreen ILS. The latest feature, expected to be available in June, was designed by Equinox and supported by the Pennsylvania Integrated Library System (PaILS), the non-profit which oversees SPARK, an Evergreen consortium in the state of Pennsylvania.

“PaILS is excited to sponsor the development of software functionality to assist libraries in offering curbside service,” said Lisa Rives Collens, President of the PaILS Board of Directors. “Only an open source ILS like Evergreen would be able to move so quickly to fill such an important need in the library community.”

Curbside Pickup extends existing functionality in Evergreen to coordinate curbside lending and expedite communications using the ILS. Patrons can select items in the catalog, place holds, arrange a pick up time, and notify the library upon arrival. A new tabbed interface will be available to library staff identifying new holds for pick up, to view or modify delivery times, and for preparing and checking out items to patrons. When patrons arrive at the library, they simply click a button in their library account to alert staff that they’re at the designated location for curbside delivery.

The new feature will support libraries as they adapt services to meet changing needs as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Equinox and the Evergreen community are working quickly and collaboratively in order to make the feature available as soon as possible.

“Our mission to empower libraries with open source technologies includes identifying emergent needs and working with partners and community members to address those needs,” said Lisa Carlucci, Executive Director. “Providing tools that support new workflows, safe practices, and create a positive service experience for patrons is one way we hope to help empower libraries during this critical time.”
