EBSCO Information Services’ Usage Consolidation™ Supports COUNTER R5
~ EBSCO Information Services Develops Features to Improve Usage Reporting ~

IPSWICH, Mass. — June 9, 2020 — EBSCO Information Services’ (EBSCO) Usage Consolidation™ service now supports COUNTER R5 providing comparison tools and new ways for librarians to analyze and manage usage reporting.

EBSCO Usage Consolidation’s COUNTER R5 support includes features that transform previously loaded R4 usage into corresponding R5 metrics to allow year-on-year comparisons to continue even as content providers transition to the new release. Library staff will be able to take advantage of new COUNTER Release 5 attributes like Year of Publication and Access Method in their consolidated reporting workflows. SUSHI Harvesting has been enhanced to support multiple harvest frequencies (annual, bi-annual, quarterly, monthly), and EBSCO also includes an intelligent “ready to load” feature that allows staff to see which platforms need usage loaded.

EBSCO is also making configuring platforms to harvest easier with preloaded information, such as URLs and reports supported. Librarians will also be able to see which platforms EBSCO’s Usage Loading Service™ handles for their institution and which platforms are managed by the institution. In addition, EBSCO’s COUNTER R5 support makes usage data immediately available in the subscription workflow via EBSCONET® Subscription Management.

EBSCO Information Service’s Chief Product Strategist Oliver Pesch says EBSCO has improved how essential information is viewed by library staff to save time. “One unique thing we do is to transform the COUNTER R4 usage to allow librarians to analyze their usage from time periods that span a content provider’s transition from R4 and R5. By offering a truly consolidated view of usage, our customers are able to make the apples to apples comparison in a more intuitive workflow — bringing essential information together in a way that improves how library staff assess their collections and usage.”

Usage Consolidation is part of the EBSCO Knowledge Services suite offering a state-of-the-art set of workflow management tools for libraries and includes Holdings & Link Management, Full Text Finder, and Publication Finder, as well as the “IQ” Services which enable customization and integration. EBSCO Knowledge Services are powered by the EBSCO Knowledge Base and are focused on removing data siloes and integrating with library management tools including FOLIO and CORAL.
