EBSCO Information Services Develops Free Tool to Assist Librarians with COUNTER R5 Reports
~ EBSCO Information Services has Developed the SUSHI Harvester for Multi-Site Libraries to Improve Usage Reporting ~

IPSWICH, Mass. — June 25, 2020 — EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) has developed a new resource to make harvesting COUNTER reports easier. The SUSHI Harvester for Multi-Site Libraries (the R5 Harvester) is a Microsoft® Access® tool designed to help small to medium size consortia more easily gather COUNTER reports for their affiliated libraries.

The R5 Harvester was created by an EBSCO development team led by the company’s Chief Product Strategist Oliver Pesch who has been involved with COUNTER since its inception. Pesch says the application allows consortia and other multi-library organizations to manage their R5 SUSHI credentials and automate the harvesting of COUNTER statistics. “Usage reports, retrieved via COUNTER_SUSHI, are saved to the local hard drive of the user either in COUNTER R5 tabular form or as a delimited text file suitable for loading into a database.”

Release 5 of the COUNTER Code of Practice has met its goal of reducing complexity while improving the clarity and streamlining of usage reporting. The Director of COUNTER, Lorraine Estelle, says feedback about the new COUNTER R5 release indicated that some library consortia needed to gather usage reports for their affiliated libraries, and EBSCO was able to provide the R5 Harvester. “Library staff told us that they needed a tool to harvest usage reports more efficiently and EBSCO was able to create the R5 Harvester, an easy to use solution allowing multi-library organizations to gather usage reports for affiliated libraries.”

Duluth, Ga., June 22, 2020: Equinox announces the successful migration of the Oman Library at the Middle East Institute in Washington, D.C. to a new, updated Koha instance.

The migration of the Oman Library at the Middle East Institute involved 21,595 bibliographic records and 249 patrons. Equinox services included: Koha support, hosting, implementation, data and auxiliary services, and staff training.

“The Equinox migration team was very helpful and patient, they answered all my questions thoroughly and were very quick to respond,” said Vickie Jacobs, librarian at the Oman Library. “The training sessions were great, and the Equinox team was very good at their job, helpful, and very capable of explaining technology terms in plain English. I've never been part of an ILS migration before, but this one went as smoothly and as well as I could have hoped.”

Founded in 1999, Koha is the first free and open source library automation package. Equinox's team includes long-standing Koha developers.

FOLIO Community Accepted to Google’s Season of Docs Initiative
Open Source Community Seeks Technical Writers to Collaborate on Documentation

IPSWICH, Mass. — June 22, 2020 — FOLIO, an open source library services platform, has been accepted to Google’s Season of Docs initiative. Season of Docs is an effort to bring together technical writers and open source projects to foster collaboration and improve documentation in the open source space.

FOLIO is now seeking technical writers to contribute to the initiative on its behalf, working closely with the open source community. Writers will bring their technical writing expertise to the FOLIO project’s documentation while learning about the open source project and new technologies. Technical writers from around the world can apply to participate in Season of Docs. Those who apply and are accepted to the project will be assigned a mentor and receive a stipend from Google.

Duluth, Ga., June 17, 2020: Equinox Open Library Initiative announced the successful migration of Dominican University College of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada to the Koha Integrated Library System.

Migration of Dominican University College encompassed 111,399 bibliographic records and 555 patrons at the university. Equinox services included: project management, system configuration, extraction and migration of bibliographic data, and staff training. Equinox also provided Koha support, hosting and auxiliary services.
