Dallas, TX – Amigos Library Services is pleased to announce it has entered into a partnership between its Amigos eShelf(SM) Service e-book distribution platform and Elsevier, a leading academic publisher of medical and scientific literature. The partnership allows eShelf(SM) Service subscribers access to approximately 25,000 science and technology e-books offered by Elsevier.

Based in Amsterdam, Elsevier is a part of the RELX Group, with operations in the US, UK, Mexico, Brazil, Spain, Germany, and elsewhere. The publisher bills itself as "a world-leading provider of information solutions that help you make better decisions, deliver better care, and sometimes make groundbreaking discoveries in science, health, and technology." It offers a number of web-based digital solutions, including ScienceDirect, Scopus, Evolve, Knovel, Reaxys and ClinicalKey.

“Elsevier has been very open to working with a non-traditional platform like ours,” said Amigos eShelf(SM) Service Manager Christine Peterson. “Their science and technical titles will be available to libraries through a perpetual license and with unlimited simultaneous usage. We continue to explore options for adding Elsevier content to our Amigos eShelf(SM) Service.”

The Amigos eShelf(SM) Service e-book platform, designed by libraries for libraries, offers an affordable, flexible option for libraries seeking to capitalize on their patrons’ growing use of electronic books and readers. Amigos is actively enrolling libraries, both members and non-members, in the service that debuted late in 2015. For more information on the service, visit the Amigos eShelf(SM) Service website or contact Christine Peterson, peterson@amigos.org or 800-843-8482, ext. 2891.

Emporia State University Teaching with Koha Klassmates

ByWater Solutions, an open source community contributor and America's forefront provider of Koha support, is happy to announce that the more than 30 students enrolled in 'Information Technology' class at the Emporia State University, will be using Koha through the Klassmates (http://klassmates.us) program.

Brenda Hough, Lecturer at Emporia, spoke of her plans for her students using Klassmates:

"This is a great opportunity for students to not only get hands-on experience with the staff side of an integrated library system, but it's also an introduction to open source software. Some students in library school don't yet have library work experience. It's easy for them to get OPAC experience, but until ByWater offered this, gaining access to the staff side of things has been a challenge. Thank you ByWater!"
