North American political magazine The Progressive has launched a brand new digital archive of issues on the Exact Editions platform. The collection, which currently features two years’ worth of issues, will grow with each new issue published and is seamlessly accessible to subscribers old and new across web, iOS and Android devices.

Since 1909, The Progressive has sought to amplify voices of dissent and those under-represented in the mainstream, with a goal of championing grassroots progressive politics. The bi-monthly magazine publishes content on national politics, culture, and events including U.S. foreign policy, and can count such prominent writers as Wendell Berry, Edwidge Danticat & Barbara Ehrenreich among its contributors.

The new digital archive is enhanced by the streamlined tools offered by the Exact Editions platform; linked contents pages ensure easy navigation, while the advanced Boolean search function allows readers to search individual issues or the complete collection for keywords or topics. Institutional access is authenticated by IP-range to facilitate instant reading for students and staff on campus, while remote access options support research conducted at home or on-the-go.

The Progressive is available in the Exact Editions individual and institutional shops here:

ByWater Solutions is working with KnowledgeWare (http://kwareict.com/en) who is based in Saudi Arabia, to bring Aspen to the Middle East. KnowledgeWare has done extensive work on the Arabic translation and right justification development efforts within Aspen and ByWater will be providing assistance and consultation in partnership with them on several projects they have secured within the region.

Nate Curulla, CRO, ByWater Solutions, recently commented on the integration.

We are extremely happy to see the open source platform grow internationally and provide libraries with a flexible discovery layer.

Together, ByWater Solutions and KnowledgeWare Technologies partnership helps expand Aspen Discovery to libraries in the Middle East.

Massoud M. AlShareef, Managing Director, KnowledgeWare Technologies recently commented on the integration.

Aspen Discovery not only brings rich e-content (e-books, e-audio, e-movies, e-articles, etc.) to libraries, integrated natively with their existing catalog, but Aspen also makes it reality that patrons can now enjoy online preview, place hold, check-out, and check-in titles from popular e-content providers, like Overdrive, Hoopla, and Axis 360. "We hope our power users will love the new ability to cancel, freeze, and thaw holds in bulk as much as we enjoyed developing these and many more new features."

Aspen Discovery 21.08 has lots of new features that will help patrons, especially power users, to be more efficient. It also includes numerous changes to make administration easier. Finally, there are some back end changes to enable future performance enhancements and new indexing functionality.

Our power patrons with long holds lists will love the ability to freeze, thaw, and cancel multiple holds at once. This new feature will allow users to minimize the number of clicks needed when they work with their holds list.

We have also updated the display of holds for patrons using Koha’s auto renew feature to give them more information about what will renew when, and if a title cannot be auto renewed, why it cannot.

We’ve also introduced support for some advanced hold functionality within Polaris including the ability to confirm holds when needed and place call number holds for items with volume information in them.

Other key features include: Quipu eCARD integration; improvements for permissions especially for large consortia; support for new formats including Book + CD, Book + DVD, CD + Book, Library of Things, and Book Club - Large Print; indexing improvements for Hoopla, OverDrive, and the base indexing process. Over 50 changes and improvements are included in this release of Aspen Discovery.
