www.bslw.comPROVO, Utah, June 2, 2017 — Backstage Library Works (www.bslw.com) recently conducted a detailed assessment of authority control processing timelines. The published report is a guide to help libraries plan and execute authority control projects most realistic to their schedules and deadlines.
Read the report here: http://bslw.com/authority_control/statistics
The guide sheds light on variables that affect contract-to-processing time, items that libraries can take care of before sending records for processing, the average number of months a library will take from the time of contract-signing to processing, and the time records will be out of a library’s system during authority processing. In the report, Backstage also recommends the time a library should allow for discussions, testing, and profiling.
The report aggregates three years of data, from 2014 through 2016, for authority control projects at academic, public, and special libraries, as well as library consortia. Collection sizes range from 40,000 bibliographic records to databases of several million records.
