    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
    Norcross, GA — July 13, 2010
The New Mexico State Library is contracting with Equinox Software, Inc to host two Koha databases, one for the State Library's Books By Mail program and one for their Rural Bookmobiles service. Equinox is also providing data migration services and support.

According to Gary Harris, the Director of the Technical Services Bureau at the State Library, "The New Mexico State Library began an evaluation of the Koha Integrated Library Management System in 2008. We were impressed with the software from the beginning, but we encountered a few problems with implementation. We have a test system up and running, but decided to get help from an open source software support company. We began a selection process in January 2010, and Equinox came out on top for several reasons, not to mention their solid reputation and contributions to the Koha community."

Brad LaJeunesse, Equinox CEO, says, “Equinox’s expansion into Koha migration and support was the next logical step for us to take. We are particularly excited to be working with the New Mexico State Library as they have shown such enthusiasm and support for the Open Source community.”

Galen Charlton, VP for Data Services at Equinox, adds, "I am personally very pleased to be continuing my work with Koha and Koha libraries, and I welcome the New Mexico State Library to the community of libraries who are using Koha to enhance services to their patrons".

San Francisco, CA, July 13, 2010 – Mosio, the leader in text messaging (SMS) solutions for libraries, today announced a mobile reference pilot program with 9 public and academic library systems in Washington State. The pilot is made possible by the Washington State Library, making use of funds from the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA), provided through the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).

“We’re already providing live chat reference through Ask-WA, our statewide reference cooperative (available at ask.wa.gov), and adding reference services via text messaging seemed like the natural next step,” said Ahniwa Ferrari, Online Resources Consultant, Washington State Library. “Our decision to go with Mosio’s solution enables our libraries to use a service that makes it easy for them to get up and running quickly so we can test patron interest in communicating with our libraries on their mobile phones.”

Text messaging (SMS) is the most widely used form of mobile communication in the world. Americans are now texting more than twice as much as they are talking on their cell phones.
The pilot program will run in a select number of member libraries who will promote and use the service to communicate with their patrons.

“Accessibility will always be essential in keeping libraries relevant in their communities” said Noel Chandler, Mosio CEO and Cofounder. “We’re excited to have more libraries in Washington using our next generation mobile messaging technology to strengthen patron relationships and library communications.”

Now servicing over 500 libraries in the U.S., Mosio designs mobile solutions to improve communications, engagement and relationships between libraries and their patrons. As a mobile carrier-approved technology, Text a Librarian enables libraries to utilize text messaging to interact with and be available to more patrons wherever they are.

~Mutual Customers Benefit from Agreement Allowing Web of Science Content to be Accessed from within EBSCO Discovery Service™ ~

IPSWICH, Mass. — July 13, 2010 — EBSCO Publishing (EBSCO) and Thomson Reuters have come to an agreement allowing mutual customers to access Web of ScienceSM within EBSCO Discovery Service™ (EDS). The agreement between EBSCO and Thomson Reuters means institutions subscribing to both EDS and Web of Science may conduct their search via the single search box of EBSCO Discovery Service, access the valuable content in Web of Science within the results and be able to link over to the full Web of Science record.

Web of Science provides access to leading citation databases with current and retrospective coverage in the sciences, social sciences, arts, and humanities—including 256 disciplines. The content in Web of Science covers more than 11,000 of the highest impact journals worldwide, including Open Access journals and more than 110,000 conference proceedings.

Web of Science joins Baker & Taylor, the British Library’s Electronic Table of Contents File (ETOC), NewsBank, Readex, LexisNexis, Alexander Street Press and many others in making EBSCO Discovery Service the most comprehensive discovery solution available.

EBSCO Discovery Service creates a unified, customized index of an institution’s information resources, and an easy, yet powerful means of accessing all of that content from a single search box—searching made even more powerful because of the quality of metadata and depth and breadth of coverage. Web of Science is one example of how EBSCO Discovery Service customers can add to the large EDS Base Index creating a truly custom collection and increasing the amount of information available to users through the single search box.

The Base Index for EBSCO Discovery Service forms the foundation upon which each EDS subscribing library builds out its custom collection. Beginning with the Base Index, each institution extends the reach of EDS by adding appropriate resources including its catalog, institutional repositories, EBSCOhost and other databases, and additional content sources to which it subscribes. It is this combination that allows a single, comprehensive, custom solution for discovering the value of any library’s collection.

The EDS Base Index is comprised of metadata from the world’s foremost information providers. At present, the EDS Base Index represents content from approximately 20,000 providers in addition to metadata from another 70,000 book publishers. Although constantly growing, today the EDS Base Index provides metadata for nearly 50,000 Magazines & Journals, approximately 825,000 CDs & DVDs, nearly six million books, more than 20,000 conference proceedings and hundreds of thousands of additional information sources from various source-types.
