    Clinical Citations from Plum® Analytics
    Do What Traditional Citations Cannot
~ New Citation Category Helps Assess Clinical Impact
to Tell the Stories of Clinical Research ~

IPSWICH, Mass. — May 12, 2016 — Plum® Analytics, an EBSCO company, continues to pioneer ways to measure the impact of research by tackling clinical impact with the introduction of a new area of citations: Clinical Citations. This will allow clinical and translational science researchers, and those who fund and publish their work, to track the research with the PlumX™ Suite when the work is cited in materials used for clinical purposes.

The PlumX Suite is a series of five altmetrics products that provide ways to assess and track research, find future funding opportunities and benchmark institutions. The products track metrics in five categories of metrics – Usage, Captures, Mentions, Social Media and Citations. The citations category traditionally includes scholarly indexes. Plum Analytics is the first altmetrics company to broaden the category to include Clinical Citations, instances where the research is cited in a clinical information resource to tell the story of clinical impact.

Plum Analytics Founder and President Andrea Michalek says that Clinical Citations gives these clinical and translational science researchers, funders and publishers an additional way to evaluate this research. “Plum Analytics was created to forge new ways to assess and talk about research and its impact. Clinical impact is a very important part of research impact that is overlooked or underserved. Clinical Citations are Plum Analytics’ latest innovation in assessing impact. Clinical Citations can help those who perform clinical research and translational science tell their stories and get credit for their research.”

The first Clinical Citations in PlumX are from DynaMed Plus® and others will follow. Clinicians rely upon DynaMed Plus to provide instant access to the most current evidence-based information at the point of care to ensure they are making the best decisions for their patients. PlumX conducts text mining of DynaMed Plus topics to see when that topic references a particular piece of research. When it does, PlumX counts it as a Clinical Citation for that study. If multiple topics reference the same study, that research will earn a higher Clinical Citation count. Researchers will be able to see a list of the topics along with links to them in DynaMed Plus from the PlumX Dashboards.

    About Plum Analytics
Plum Analytics was founded in 2012 to bring modern ways of measuring research impact to individuals and organizations that use, fund, support, perform, publish or analyze research. Plum Analytics provides contemporary information about research impact and gather metrics (often called altmetrics) about research from more than 30 sources (including PLOS, PubMed, DynaMed Plus and YouTube) and categorizes them into Usage, Captures, Mentions, Social Media and Citations. The PlumX Suite is comprised of five products that ensure that information on research output is available to those that fund, perform, support or publish research based on the unique needs of each group. U.S. Federal Library Selects Bibliovation
North Bethesda, MD, May 6, 2016- LibLime, a Division of PTFS, has been selected by a civilian U.S. Federal Government Library as the winning vendor to implement the Bibliovation Library Services Platform to manage their bibliographic and digital technical collections. LibLime responded to the Library’s RFP and with a solid technical response and a compelling cost proposal, and has been awarded the contract. LibLime will provide implementation, digital object migration, and support services to the library. LibLime and PTFS specialists will work closely with government staff to replace their legacy commercial bibliographic cataloging system.

    About Bibliovation
The Bibliovation LSP provides an extensible, web based platform from which libraries can manage both traditional bibliographic materials along with digital content, all in a single platform. Supporting MARC21, RDA and geotagging, Bibliovation offers a Rest API-based Discovery Layer integrated with the EDS API and Index Data’s Master Key services, providing the end user the ability to search both catalog and databases at the same time. Bibliovation includes an EDI-compliant acquisitions component; a completely MARC-based cataloging editor for bibliographic, holdings and authority records; and full patron empowerment for purchase requests, ILL requests and reference requests from the Discovery Layer. Bibliovation is completely web-based, FISMA- certified and is hosted in a FedRAMP-compliant hosting facility. The latest release of Bibliovation, which came out in late September, includes a variety of new features such as OCR upon ingest, batch edit of bibliographic records, ‘object-only’ displays in the Discovery Layer, a new reporting module, and notification enhancements.

    About LibLime-PTFS
LibLime, a division of PTFS, is the global leader in providing support for open development Library Service Platforms (LSP). Rather than sell software licenses for static, hard-to-customize software products, LibLime educates libraries about the benefits of open development, enabling them to make choices about how best to provide their communities and staff with better technology services. LibLime then facilitates deployment of the LSP in libraries by providing outstanding consulting, development, implementation and support/hosting services. PTFS is also the developer of the world’s leading content management software, Knowvation, and specializes in meeting library personnel staffing requirements, digitization and metadata keying services. BETHLEHEM, Pa., April 29, 2016 –– Backstage Library Works (www.bslw.com) has announced its most recent digitization projects that are part of a continuing effort to help institutions around the world provide access to culturally and historically rich newspapers.

Interested in providing patrons online access to newspapers, libraries often take the initiative to seek donor or grant funding to digitize collections. Digitization projects can be fraught with challenges such as brittle, fragile, or dog-eared materials. Backstage preservation teams implement special handling techniques to ensure that materials are kept intact.

Newspapers up to broadsheet size are captured at high resolution, allowing for the best possible optical character recognition (OCR), converting scanned words into searchable text. Backstage can prepare images and metadata according to a library's requirements. Newspapers and other serials can be segmented at page or article level using METS/ALTO metadata.

Newspapers reflect local history in ways few other documents can. Regardless of the scale or scope of a project, Backstage is leading the way in its production capacity, guaranteed quality and customer service.

Eric Larson, vice president of digitization services for Backstage states:

“Backstage recognizes the important historical significance of local newspaper collections, and we are dedicated to preserving that history through our high quality digitization efforts. Newspapers preserve local history, and Backstage is here to help libraries share this unique and valuable knowledge.”

    Client projects underway include:

    ◾Bermuda National Library
    ◾Free Library of Philadelphia
    ◾Millersville University, Pennsylvania
◾Suffolk Cooperative Library System, New York
    ◾Thomas Nelson Community College, Virginia

PROVO, Utah, May 2, 2016 –– Backstage Library Works (www.bslw.com) has announced an expansion of its cataloging and physical processing services to accommodate new workflows for preparing musical scores for shelf-ready delivery.

Creating catalog records for scores and sheet music requires a familiarity with MARC standards, a fluency with musical terms, and often some linguistic expertise.

Nicole Arbuckle, vice president of metadata services for Backstage Library Works, reports:

“Backstage has long offered metadata for music collections. Over the years, we've cataloged books, sheet music, vinyl LPs, and compact discs.

“Recently, we've seen increased interest in shelf-ready processing for musical scores, particularly for classical pieces produced by European publishers. So we've developed workflows to meet these new needs, facilitating drop shipping through Backstage so a library's scores can arrive ready to go straight from the box to the shelf.”

Drop shipping arrangements can be initiated by the library or the book vendor.

Librarians simply request that their vendors send items to Backstage for processing, then Backstage will send the items along to the library. Publishers and distributors can also start the process, offering their library clients the convenient option of having materials delivered first to Backstage for cataloging, covering, and labeling.

In either case, the cataloging and physical processing services can be customized to fit the practices of the library purchasing the materials.
