Duluth, Ga., July 12, 2019: Equinox is pleased to welcome Adams County Library System to Evergreen with their successful migration to the Pennsylvania Integrated Library System (PaILS) SPARK Consortium.

The Adams County Library System’s move will support 49,289 patrons. The migration included a total of 118,401 bibliographic records. Services provided by Equinox included project management and Evergreen software configuration. Data extraction and bibliographic de-duplication were completed as part of their migration encompassing item, patron, and transaction records. The library prepared for the migration with on site and remote training from Equinox.

"We have enjoyed the adventure of migrating our libraries to SPARK,” said Laura Goss, executive director of the Adams County Library System. “The Equniox/PaILS migration team gave us an overview and timeline so that we knew from the first phone call what to expect in the process, which made it easy to complete our tasks on schedule. The team was always quickly responsive to our questions and was able to figure out how to incorporate all of our quirks. The six Adams County Library branches are happy to have joined the SPARK community and look forward to continuing our involvement with PaILS and Equinox."

PaILS was founded in June 2011 as a non-profit organization to provide an open source integrated library system. It oversees SPARK, a consortium of Evergreen libraries across Pennsylvania. Equinox and PaILS have been collaborating on the SPARK consortium since 2013.

"One of my goals in each migration is to try to find ways to improve each one, to find some way to enrich the experience for the library migrating,” said Rogan Hamby, data and project analyst for Equinox. “I really like working with PAILS because in our collaboration I have a partner in developing that experience. The Adams library staff were great to work with. I know it was a busy time of the year for them and they handled this like they do it all the time. It's a thrill to see PAILS grow and by extension the Evergreen community grow with these great folks joining us."

Brill, the international scholarly publisher, is proud to enter into a partnership with six sponsors to continue publishing the Journal of Jesuit Studies in Open Access. With the support and commitment of these sponsors from around the globe, representing key institutions in the field, all research articles and book reviews will be available online for free from the moment of publication. Moreover, there are no author publication charges. Brill is excited to embrace this crowd-funded model for publishing journals in the Humanities.

The following institutions have committed to sponsorship:

    Fairfield University, USA
The Francis & Ann Curran Center for American Catholic Studies at Fordham University, USA
    Loyola University Chicago, USA
    Universidad Iberoamericana, Mexico
    Universidad Loyola Andalucía, Spain
    The University of Scranton, USA

Volumes 2 to 5 of the journal were sponsored by the Institute for Advanced Jesuit Studies at Boston College; the inaugural volume 1, originally published for subscription, was made available in Open Access by Brill retroactively.

Robert Maryks, Editor of the Journal of Jesuit Studies, comments: “By committing to support the publication of the Journal of Jesuit Studies in Open Access, the Jesuit educational institutions fulfill their integral mission of promoting social justice, as the scholarship on the Society of Jesus is being made available for free to those institutions and individuals around the world that would not be able to afford a subscription to it.”

Rev. Gerald R. Blaszczak, SJ, Vice President for Mission and Identity at Fairfield University, adds: “Fairfield University is delighted to join with our sister institutions to support the publication of the Journal of Jesuit Studies in Open Access. The work of the Society continues to inform and shape our world, and it essential that scholarship on the Society of Jesus is supported and encouraged so that contemporary scholars, and scholars of the future, will be able to contribute to this body of research.”

Jasmin Lange, Chief Publishing Officer at Brill, says: “We are very excited that the Journal of Jesuit Studies will remain an Open Access journal. The commitment of six sponsors from three countries is testimony to the strong international reputation for high-quality and innovative research that the journal has acquired since its foundation in 2014. Thanks to the generous support of the sponsors, a broad community of researchers, students and others interested in the field of Jesuit Studies has access to the latest research in this booming field. In addition, we will examine this model for other Brill journals.”
