    Leiden / Boston / Paderborn / Singapore / Beijing – 12 December 2018

International publishing house Brill has renewed its partnership with the Dutch Society KITLV in the publication of two prestigious Open Access journals.

Brill and the Dutch Society for Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies (KITLV) announce the renewal of their partnership in the publication of both internationally widely acclaimed journals The Journal of the Humanities and Social Sciences of Southeast Asia (founded 1853) and The New West Indian Guide (1919). In this unique agreement Brill publishes both of its journals in Open Access, under sponsorship of the Society. At the same time the Society takes on full editorial responsibility, which is financially supported by Brill.

“This cooperation dates back to 2012 and we are delighted with this long-term renewal,” says Sam Bruinsma, Brill’s Senior Vice-president Business Development. “Its special character offers the best of both worlds: the editorial quality of our journals is being guaranteed while accepted manuscripts are published directly in Open Access without any fees for the authors, independent of their country of origin.”

Professor Susan Legêne, chair of the KITLV Society adds: “For us Brill is a publishing house that combines its role in publishing accessible contemporary research with opening up its impressive library of sometimes centuries old publications. By doing so, they are an important institute for the subject fields of the KITLV and it’s a privilege to be part of that.”
