~ Three $100,000 Grants Available for Libraries Looking to Go Green ~

IPSWICH, Mass. — February 9, 2018 — EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) will continue its commitment to helping libraries with sustainability efforts by bringing back an enhanced version of its EBSCO Solar grant program for 2018. As part of the EBSCO Solar initiative, EBSCO is soliciting grant applications to give libraries the opportunity to “go green” by funding solar installations. EBSCO has expanded the program for 2018 and is making three $100,000 grants available to applicants.

The grants will allow winning libraries to reduce their utilities expenses and install a solar array at their institution. After seeing the benefits of “going green” on its own campus, EBSCO introduced the EBSCO Solar grant program so libraries interested in adding their own solar arrays can do so. Since 2016, EBSCO has given libraries more than $350,000 in grant money.

In 2017, EBSCO received 90 submissions from 15 countries. Indian Trails Public Library District in Wheeling, Illinois, and Athens-Clarke County Library in Athens, Georgia, were each awarded $100,000 last year. Both libraries expect to install their array in 2018. The 2016 winner, Austin Community College District’s Highland Campus, completed their installation in September 2017.

EBSCO Information Services President Tim Collins says institutions benefit from reducing their carbon footprint in ways beyond saving money. “We have seen tremendous benefits by focusing on environmental responsibility — employees appreciate our efforts, we are able to do the right thing for our planet and support alternative energies and we can serve as an example to companies wondering if they can make a difference. The EBSCO Solar Grant program allows libraries to benefit from green technologies and to serve as examples in their communities.”

Interested libraries are encouraged to submit questions until March 16th. Submissions are due by April 30th, and the winner will be announced on June 22nd, 2018, both online and at ALA-Annual. More information is available on the EBSCO Solar webpage at www.ebsco.com/solar, including the timeline, where to submit questions, a link to the submission form and FAQs.
