Chattanooga, TN (March 13, 2017) - Chattanooga Public Library has partnered with library software startup Koios to make their materials visible in Google search results. CPL is one of the first libraries to implement Libre, Koios’ search optimization platform for libraries.

When asked about her decision to be an early adopter of Koios, CPL Director Corinne Hill noted, “I want to be where our users are. And our users are on Google.” Hill also highlighted Koios’ deep research into local search habits as a deciding factor. “We never realized how many opportunities were available on Google to connect our community to our resources right when they need them.”

Libre is a new product from Koios, previously known for their work in browser extensions. According to Koios founder Trey Gordner, Libre substantially advances the young company’s mission to “make borrowing online as easy as buying.” The product promotes library resources with elegant, responsive, search-optimized landing pages that are linked to relevant keyword searches. So a Google search for “Fahrenheit 451” will return “Fahrenheit 451 is available free from your local library.”

In addition to implementing Libre, CPL will join Koios’ new Search Marketing Practices for Libraries group. Members share data and collaborate on new strategies for search visibility. Gordner and Hill will jointly present some of the early insights at a Computers in Libraries session later this month.

    Leiden / Boston / Paderborn / Singapore – 13 March 2017

International publishing house Brill has become the publisher of The Journal of Interrupted Studies, a not-for-profit multidisciplinary journal edited and founded by Oxford University students and academics, and dedicated to the work of refugee academics. Serving as a platform to publish research that has in many cases itself been interrupted by the authors’ own forced migration, the journal aims to show the impact of the refugee crisis on academic scholarship and the lives of academic refugees. It also provides a forum for valuable incomplete research; often a fragment of an unfinished research project, such as a hypothesis or methodology, can contribute significantly to scholarly development.

The journal editors, Oxford students Paul Ostwald and Marcos Barclay remark: “The journal seeks to highlight the intellectual and political agency of refugees in a climate where they are often dehumanised and excluded from the public discourse around them. Our partnership with Brill is an important step to a broader awareness of the journal’s mission.”

Brill CEO Herman Pabbruwe comments: “When an intellectual project is stopped short, the available pieces may hold great value – both as scholarly contributions in themselves and as offerings to a more complete understanding of the interruption and its impact. Brill is honored to offer sponsorship and support to the publication of The Journal of Interrupted Studies.”

The electronic version of the journal will be freely available on an Open Access basis. Brill will also produce a print version which will be available free of charge.
