LearningExpress Adds Center to Help Students Develop Skills Essential for College and Career Success

~ PrepSTEP™ College Success Skills Center Helps Build Foundational Skills ~

IPSWICH, Mass. — September 13, 2016 — Students need to have the skills to be effective learners and team members in order to be successful in school and in the workplace. LearningExpress, an EBSCO Company, helps students develop the non-academic skills and habits that are essential for college and career success with the newly added College Success Skills Center in PrepSTEP™.

College Success Skills Center provides self-directed study that serves all students and can be a particularly valuable asset to student support services and first-year experience programs. The center helps build essential skills that many students do not possess when they enter college, such as time management, goal setting, organization and multitasking.

The center includes training for classroom and research skills, such as information literacy, citing work and avoiding plagiarism, and offers skills equally important in the workplace, including note-taking, reading strategies and effective listening. It also teaches students how to communicate with professors and take advantage of campus resources. The ability to work with others and effectively communicate are two of the top five skills that employers seek, so building these skills are critical.

LearningExpress General Manager and Chief Operating Officer Kheil McIntyre says the new center will become a key online resource for students and colleges. “Up to 50 percent of students enter college unprepared for college-level work, and remedial courses alone have not been successful in retaining students through graduation. College Success Skills Center helps students learn better, stay engaged to complete their program, and develop life-long skills that promote success in school and beyond.”

The center is the latest addition to PrepSTEP, a unique collection of academic and career-related resources that offers skill-building in reading, writing, math, science, basic computer skills and workforce skills, as well as preparation for high-stakes exams like college admission and placement, graduate school admissions, and occupational licensing. PrepSTEP is available in 2-Year and 4-Year College Editions.
