    Leiden (NL) / Boston (USA) / Singapore (SG) – 30 June 2016

International publisher Brill launches a new journal in 2016: Philological Encounters( http://www.brill.com/products/journal/philological-encounters), in collaboration with the research program Zukunftsphilologie: Revisiting the Canons of Textual Scholarship (http://www.forum-transregionale-studien.de/forum/publikationen/alle-publ..., Forum Transregionale Studien/Freie Universität Berlin).

Brill adds the peer-reviewed journal to its growing publishing portfolio in Philology, Intellectual History and the History of Scholarship, which spans across all Brill publishing areas, such as Asian Studies, Middle East and Islamic Studies, and Language and Literature. Philological Encounters will consist of 4 issues per year, with an accompanying book series of the same title. The journal will be available both online on http://booksandjournals.brillonline.com/ and in print.

Philological Encounters’ advisory board member Prof. Sheldon Pollock (Columbia University) said that "Philology is being reborn across the globe. But if it is to fully develop its new and dynamic identity—as a transhistorical and transregional, comparative and critical discipline—and thereby reclaim its central role in both the academy and public life, we must have a journal that fully embodies those aspirations. Philological Encounters is that journal, and world philologists welcome it with open arms."

“This new journal is a perfect fit for Brill’s publishing program,” says Kathy van Vliet, Acquisitions Editor and responsible for the new journal at Brill. “Philological Encounters welcomes contributions of critical and comparative perspectives that integrate textual scholarship and the study of language from across the world and across all disciplines within the Humanities.”
