Farmington Hills, Mich., October 23, 2013 — Gale, part of Cengage Learning and a leading publisher of research and reference resources for libraries, schools and businesses, today announced the addition of nearly 200 new children’s reference titles from revered publisher, Encyclopaedia Britannica, to its Gale Virtual Reference Library (GVRL) ebook platform. GVRL delivers reference content and series non-fiction from more than 100 publishers to all types of libraries. The addition of these new titles brings the total eBooks available on the platform to more than 8,000, with over 500 from Encyclopaedia Britannica.

“We’re excited to bring these exceptional titles to our current and future customers,” said Peter Scott, senior director, publisher relations, at Gale, part of Cengage Learning. “Encyclopaedia Britannica has moved to a largely digital publishing schedule, so by making these titles available on GVRL, we’re ensuring students, teachers and researchers in public and school libraries will have seamless access to these important learning tools.”

The new titles are geared toward students in pre-Kindergarten through grade 6 and support Gale’s efforts to provide additional educational content for early literacy in the public and school library markets. The titles cover multiple series and topics – from machines and American symbols and landmarks to color and number concepts, math and science topics and social skills (honesty, sharing, not being a bully), which can aid in community or school programing. Several titles are also available in English/Spanish and Spanish-only.

Named “Best Overall Database” by the readers of Library Journal magazine in 2012, GVRL offers unlimited, simultaneous usage and user-friendly features such as an interface available in more than 30 languages, ReadSpeaker technology (text-to-speech functionality) for 19 languages, article translation capability, a multi-page viewer for a traditional book-like experience, and the ability to download articles as PDFs to ereaders or MP3 players for offline access. Gale also offers free promotional help including advertising and search tools for embedding within the library website, MARC records and other customizable marketing resources.

Encyclopaedia Britannica titles will be available in GVRL in the coming weeks. North Bethesda, MD, October 23, 2013- LibLime, a division of PTFS, announces that the Philipsburg Jubilee Library, in Philipsburg, St. Maarten, has selected LibLime Koha 4.16 as its new ILS.

The Philipsburg Jubilee staff will work with LibLime Project Management in the upcoming months to migrate bibliographic, item, and patron data from their legacy Horizon system to the LibLime Koha 4.16 platform. Philipsburg Jubilee staff looks forward to taking advantage of the rich functionality in LibLime Koha 4.16, including foundational support for authority control, expanded SIP2 support for renewals, improved Solr stemming functionality, enhanced search attributes for patron records for easier staff access, and support for RDA 2013. As with all versions of LibLime Koha since 4.8, the entire application resides in the Plack environment for enhanced performance.

    About the Philipsburg Jubilee Library
The Philipsburg Jubilee Library was founded on November 23, 1923, commemorating the year Queen Wilhelmina celebrated her silver jubilee. As the library grew in size during the 1960s and 1970s, plans were developed to re-locate the library to its present location, which is currently 20 times larger than its previous size. The new library opened its doors on April 2, 1984 and thereafter became the first library in the Netherland Antilles to be fully automated. In 1997, the Internet found its way into the library and just one year later, during its 75th jubilee, the library created its website.

    About LibLime - PTFS
LibLime – PTFS is the global leader in providing support for the Koha open source ILS. Rather than sell software licenses for static, hard-to-customize software products, the PTFS LibLime Division educates libraries about the benefits of open source, enabling them to make choices about how best to provide their communities and staff with better technology services. The PTFS LibLime Division then facilitates deployment of Koha in libraries by providing outstanding consulting, development, implementation, and support/hosting for libraries of all types and sizes. PTFS is also the developer of the world’s leading content management software, ArchivalWare, and specializes in meeting library personnel staffing requirements, digitization, and metadata keying services.
