Farmington Hills, MI, April 4, 2012 — Gale, part of Cengage Learning and a leading publisher of research and reference resources for libraries, schools and businesses, is celebrating National Library Week, April 8–14, by encouraging library advocacy in local communities across the country. To help drive awareness at the local level, and to support the American Library Association theme, You Belong @ the Library, Gale will be offering limited edition bumper magnets with the tag line: Meet me @ the Library, to the first 100 libraries to visit and “like” the Gale Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/GaleCengage).

In addition, Gale is offering free access to dozens of its online resources, such as Powerspeak Languages, Career Transitions and the In Context products, to U.S. and Canadian customers via its trial program site - http://www.galetrials.com/.

“Library advocacy is a core value at Cengage Learning and something we focus on all year,” said Nader Qaimari, senior vice president, marketing, Cengage Learning. “Today’s libraries offer something for everyone and this year we wanted to help libraries spread this message to their communities in a fun and effective way.”

Some recent library advocacy programs initiated by Gale include Librareo, Gale ProMo, the Small Library Support Program and the Are You a Librarian Superhero? contest.

Librareo – a free web-based community that supports the future of libraries and librarianship by providing students enrolled in Library and Information Studies (LIS) programs with free access to the professional resources they’ll rely upon following graduation. LIS students who register are given unlimited access to more than a dozen of the most-requested Gale resources throughout their library school career, a free one year subscription to either Library Journal or School Library Journal, and access to industry thought leaders via the Librareo community.

Gale ProMo – This new service allows librarians to create promotional materials – bookmarks, posters, tent cards and more – with their library’s name and message all for free. Librarians can choose standard items or custom make materials with their library information. Promotional materials for specific products or general promotional items are also available.

Small Library Support Program – Designed specifically for small and rural libraries serving communities of 50,000 or fewer, Gale is offering select resources that help librarians provide resources for the most-requested information all at unprecedented savings. Special programs, training and services will also be offered in the coming months.

Are You a Librarian Superhero? contest – For the second year, Gale is hosting the Are You a Librarian Superhero? contest to recognize the heroic efforts put forth by librarians around the country. Visit the Gale booth at the American Library Association’s annual meeting in June for the announcement of the winners.
