About the Shuter Library of Angel Fire:
The Angel Fire Community Library was started in 1978 in a back room of the Angel Fire Country Club by seven ladies who found out their beloved bookmobile was not going to make it that day. Now, three decades and a name change later, the Shuter Library is an independent, incorporated, and registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our current building, opened in 2002, is owned in full by the library thanks to the fund-raising efforts of the Friends of the Library, and the generosity of the Shuter Family among many others. The Library is operated by a nine-member Board of Directors, some 50 volunteers and one paid Director. Our collection currently holds roughly 10,000 print and audio books, as well as educational DVDs, a medical reference desk and a dedicated southwest collection. Cape Coral, FL, April 14, 2011 – The Robert F. Asleson Memorial ALA Grant has announced the receipt of its first corporate gift. EBSCO Publishing, a leading content provider for libraries, has provided a very generous donation to support this newly-established grant.

Candidates for an ALA-accredited Master of Library Science degree are eligible to apply for the grant which will subsidize attendance at either the American Library Association Midwinter Meeting or the Annual Conference. Successful recipients will be selected based on economic need and the quality of an essay written according to criteria set by the grant’s board of directors. Each grant will be in the amount of $1,500.00.

The Robert F. Asleson Memorial ALA Grant honors the memory of the late Bob Asleson, one of the information industry’s most creative and prolific executives. An advisor and guide to countless members of the profession, Bob’s 50-year career spanned both traditional and innovative technologies, from reference materials to CD-ROMs to online databases. He held presidential positions at several leading industry companies and served on countless industry organization boards. This grant was established by Bob’s friends and colleagues within the information industry.

Tim Collins, president, EBSCO Publishing, said, “As a company with a long history of serving libraries, EBSCO Publishing understands the dedication and innovation-focused mindset of Bob Asleson. Supporting the Robert F. Asleson Memorial ALA Grant is a small way to help continue Bob’s legacy of service to libraries and to support the next generation of library leaders.”

Iris L. Hanney, president of the grant’s board of directors and founder of Unlimited Priorities Corporation responded: “The board of directors deeply appreciates this generous donation from EBSCO Publishing. It is fitting that the initial corporate donation should come from a company that has long been involved in all aspects of service to the library community, as Bob was. We thank EBSCO Publishing, and look forward to benefiting from the generosity of many additional companies throughout the industry.”

Grant details, including donation information, are available at www.aslesongrant.org.

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
    Norcross, GA – April 13, 2011
Burlington Public Library, La Conner Public Library, and the Upper Skagit Library District have gone live on Evergreen as a newly formed consortium, Skagit Evergreen Libraries. Burlington Public Library Director, Maggie Buckholz, reported, “I have to admit we were both eager and apprehensive about the data migration! But really it went remarkably smoothly. The Equinox crew was responsive and professional. I was also impressed at how easily the staff were able to perform basic circulation functions.”

To give you some background, we are a three-year old business publisher founded specifically to provide e-books to libraries. We focus on applied, concise books for upper-level business students below the level of Ph.D. We believe this is a large but somewhat under served audience in terms of library resources as most library content, databases, research monographs, and journals, are aimed at faculty and Ph.D. candidates.

Business Expert Press offers 2 collections of books- a set of 50 in the 2010 collection and 60 in the 2011 one- and all are available as an e-library for schools. Our books are managed in collections by top scholars as collection editors and are offerings are fresh, timely and authoritative. Our books serve as excellent research/reference tools for students and often serve as course reading material for faculty.

Because we built our company on selling e-books to libraries we listened to librarians and as such we offer our Digital Libraries as yearly purchases that are offered as a one-time purchase with no ongoing subscription fee - you pay once and you own it forever. This means that you gain unrestricted access to these texts, delivered as PDFs that can be printed, downloaded, or read simultaneously online. Additionally, we of course include MARC records, as well as copious metadata for each book.

Here is a link to our demo site where you can review our e-books http://site.ebrary.com/lib/geptitles/home.action. I suggest you type "Business Expert Press" into the simple search box and then browse our titles for a book of interest to you.

Here is a link to our website where you can see a full list of books in each year's Digital Library offering: http://www.businessexpertpress.com/librarians

-Our annual Digital Library features front-list books edited by our collection editors who are all leaders in their fields.
-We do not restrict usage. We deliver a PDF that can be printed, downloaded and simultaneously accessed by an unlimited number of students.

~ Metadata for Twelve World Book Reference Tools Included in the Base Index of EBSCO Discovery Service™ ~

IPSWICH, Mass. — April 12, 2011 — A recent agreement between EBSCO Publishing (EBSCO) and World Book, Inc. (World Book) will bring twelve popular reference tools into EBSCO Discovery Service™ (EDS). Metadata, including full-text searching, for World Book resources will be added to the EDS Base Index allowing the World Book content to better impact searching through the EDS single search interface. The twelve World Book resources that will be searchable in EDS include popular English language titles as well as French and Spanish language reference tools.

World Book has long been committed to publishing award-winning encyclopedias, reference sources, and digital products for both children and adults. This extensive and reliable content from World Book teamed with other comprehensive collections of metadata from the best content sources make EDS the most comprehensive collection of searchable data.

World Book joins a long list of publishers and other content partners who are taking part in EDS to bring more visibility to their content. Web of Science & H.W. Wilson provide access for mutual customers. Additional information sources available to EBSCO Discovery Service users include: the British Library, Baker & Taylor, NewsBank, Readex, LexisNexis, Alexander Street Press, Oxford University Press, American Psychological Association, ABC-CLIO, ingentaconnect, Government Printing Office, ECONIS, Mergent Inc., arXiv, Credo Reference and IGI Global.

EBSCO Discovery Service creates a unified, customized index of an institution’s information resources, and an easy, yet powerful means of accessing all of that content from a single search box—searching made even more powerful because of the quality of metadata and depth and breadth of coverage.

EBSCO Discovery Service is quickly becoming the discovery selection for many libraries (www.ebscohost.com/discovery/eds-news), and an obvious partner for content providers. Because the service builds on the foundation provided by the EBSCOhost® platform, libraries gain a full user experience for discovering their collections/OPAC—which is not typical in the discovery space. Further still, in the many universities and other libraries where EBSCOhost is the most-used platform for premium research, users are not asked to change their pathways or habits for searching. There’s simply more to discover on the familiar EBSCOhost platform, and the same can be said for library administrators who can leverage their previous work with EBSCOadmin.

    About EBSCO Publishing
EBSCO Publishing is the world’s premier database aggregator, offering a suite of nearly 300 full-text and secondary research databases. Through a library of tens of thousands of full-text journals, magazines, books, monographs, reports and various other publication types from renowned publishers, EBSCO serves the content needs of all researchers (Academic, Medical, K-12, Public Library, Corporate, Government, etc.). The company’s product lines include proprietary databases such as Academic Search™, Business Source®, CINAHL®, DynaMed™, Literary Reference Center™, MasterFILE™, NoveList®, SocINDEX™ and SPORTDiscus™ as well as dozens of leading licensed databases such as ATLA Religion Database™, EconLit, INSPEC®, MEDLINE®, MLA International Bibliography, The Philosopher’s Index™, PsycARTICLES®, PsycINFO® and RILM™. Databases are powered by EBSCOhost®, the most-used for-fee electronic resource in libraries around the world.

EBSCO is the provider of EBSCO Discovery Service™ a core collection of locally-indexed metadata creating a unified index of an institution’s resources within a single, customizable search point providing everything the researcher needs in one place—fast, simple access to the library’s full text content, deeper indexing and more full-text searching of more journals and magazines than any other discovery service (www.ebscohost.com/discovery). For more information, visit the EBSCO Publishing Web site at: www.ebscohost.com, or contact: information@ebscohost.com. EBSCO Publishing is a division of EBSCO Industries Inc., one of the largest privately held companies in the United States.
