~ EBSCO Discovery Service the Discovery Choice for Austria’s Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst ~

IPSWICH, Mass. — February 1, 2011 —Austria’s Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst (Kunst Uni Graz) has made the decision to make EBSCO Discovery Service™(EDS) from EBSCO Publishing their discovery service. Music and art are the main focuses at Kunst Uni Graz. The university sees EDS as a way to offer more access to the electronic resources by using single search technologies.

Kunst Uni Graz is a specialized university looking to maximize the value of investment in the resources it has purchased. EDS will allow researchers to effortlessly navigate through the university’s online resources including the complete suite of EBSCOhost® music databases, which is an important part of the university’s collection.

Kunst Uni Graz was impressed with EDS because of the depth of metadata, ease of use, and customizability. Robert Schiller, the director of library archives and music instrument collection at Kunst Uni Graz says the university looked at other discovery services but thought they were too expensive and lacking in content. “What we liked about EDS was familiarity with the interface, easy integration of library catalogue data and the underlying hosting scheme.” The university will call their discovery service KUuGle.

Kunst Uni Graz did not have an e-resource management tool in place, and has chosen to subscribe to EBSCO A-to-Z® and EBSCO LinkSource®, and the university plans to start using EBSCOhost Integrated Search™ in the near future. These e-resources will allow users to efficiently search their online resources.

EBSCO Discovery Service creates a unified, customized index of an institution’s information resources, and an easy, yet powerful means of accessing all of that content from a single search box—searching made even more powerful because of the quality of metadata and depth and breadth of coverage.

The Base Index for EBSCO Discovery Service forms the foundation upon which each EDS subscribing library builds out its custom collection. Beginning with the Base Index, each institution extends the reach of EDS by adding appropriate resources including its catalog, institutional repositories, EBSCOhost and other databases, and additional content sources to which it subscribes. It is this combination that allows a single, comprehensive, custom solution for discovering the value of any library’s collection.

The EDS Base Index is comprised of metadata from the world’s foremost information providers. At present, the EDS Base Index represents content from approximately 20,000 providers in addition to metadata from another 70,000 book publishers. Although constantly growing, today the EDS Base Index provides metadata for nearly 50,000 magazines & journals, approximately 825,000 CDs & DVDs, nearly six million books, more than 100 million newspaper articles, more than 400,000 conference proceedings and hundreds of thousands of additional information sources from various source-types.
