ByWater Solutions’ Nicole C. Engard to Present at Computers in Libraries 2010 Conference in Arlington VA.

ByWater Solutions, an open source community supporter and official Koha support company, is proud to announce that Nicole C. Engard will be presenting at this years Computers in Libraries Conference in Arlington Virginia.

Nicole will be part of two Workshops; Implementing Library Mashups, on Sunday 4/11 from 9am to 12pm, and New and Open Source Tools, on Wednesday, 4/14 from 10:30 to 11:30am.

Implementing Library Mashups explains what mashups are, how they can be used, and shares examples from libraries around the world. Attendees learn about tools they can use to mash up library data with content from the web to reach more patrons and hear about successful mashup examples from academic and research libraries around the world as well as those in special and public libraries. Examples include using maps to enhance library data, using Flickr for digital collections, using video-sharing services to push collections into the public eye, and creating library websites with data from several information sources.

New and Open Source Tools presents a toolbox of new, useful, and fun tools to delight web visitors and webmasters. The speakers will tour through free or inexpensive tools that save you time, pain, or both as a web content provider, developer, or manager. Many of the tools can be used by anyone regardless of their tech know-how. Nicole will emphasize open source tools, whose source code are made available for use or modification, and provides links to a toolbox full of freely available open source products to use in libraries.

Nicole will also be signing copies of her book, Library Mashups, during the Opening Reception of the conference on April 12th from 5:00 to 5:45pm.

Nicole has been a pillar of the Koha community since 2008 and acts as documentation manager for the project. In 2009 Nicole signed on with ByWater Solutions as Director of Open Source Education, and is well known outside of the Koha community as a speaker, teacher and writer. She has also been recognized as one of Library Journal’s Movers & Shakers for 2007.
