Evergreen Indiana Continues to Grow with 4 additional Library Systems Live on Evergreen

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
    Norcross, GA — October 15, 2009
Indiana has 42 library systems now live on Evergreen, a shared-catalog project of the Indiana State Library based on Evergreen, the consortial, open-source library automation software. The new additions are Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County, Jay County, Mitchell Community, and Roachdale Public Libraries.
Equinox Software, Inc., the support and development company established by the original Evergreen developers, provides bumper-to-bumper support for migrations and is now providing 24/7 ongoing technical support.
Brad LaJeunesse, President of Equinox stated “With more and more Indiana Libraries coming on board the benefits of this consortium having resource sharing on Evergreen are truly being seen and realized.”
According to Rosalie Clamme, Director of Jay County Public Library, “We shopped for quite some time to find an upgrade to the system we have used since 1996. Until we discovered Evergreen, the muss, fuss, retraining, and expense of changing systems didn't seem to be offset by a Wow Factor. We think Evergreen has that, and our patrons seem excited about the new possibilities. They feel empowered.”

Mosio's Text a Librarian to Power Mobile Information for Conference Attendees

San Francisco, CA – Information Today is partnering with Mosio to maximize attendee experience by offering mobile information at Internet Librarian 2009, North America's largest technology conference and exhibition for Librarians and Information Managers.

Attendees can access Internet Librarian Mobile, a mobile-optimized site containing daily programming, conference tracks and the speakers list, plus quick links to the official #IL2009 Twitter hashtag and the Internet Librarian wiki. The conference's "mobile microsite" is accessible via any web-enabled mobile device, making it available and user-friendly to as many attendees as possible. Utilizing the mobile web, there is no application to download or install.

"There's been so much discussion recently about how libraries need to go to where the users are, develop and deliver services in micro-formats, take the library mobile. We've been covering it in Computers in Libraries magazine and it's a topic on the program at Internet Librarian. Thanks to our partnership with Mosio, I'm glad to say we're going to get to give attendees in Monterey a feeling for how it can apply in a real-life setting, by taking our own thick program, micro." said Dick Kaser, Information Today's VP of Content.

Launched in January 2009 and carrier-approved on over 260 million U.S. mobile phones, Mosio's Text a Librarian enables libraries to easily implement mobile text messaging to reference and patron services. Patrons text questions to libraries from their mobile devices, and librarians respond by typing answers on a secure website. The service is now being used in nearly 100 public and academic libraries across the country. Internet Librarian Mobile was built using Mosio's MobileMicro, an upcoming feature of Text a librarian, enabling librarians to create quick and simple information pages optimized for the mobile web.

"The need for mobility is creating an interesting conundrum," said Noel Chandler, Mosio CEO and Co-Founder. "There is pressure to be relevant to the rapidly growing population of mobile information seekers, but the development and maintenance of mobile apps is too time-intensive and cost-prohibitive for many organizations. In addition, discovery of apps by users still presents a challenge. We created the MobileMicro feature to make it simple for libraries using our Text a Librarian service to have an easily-accessible mobile presence without the costs and resources required for effective mobile app development."

Internet Librarian Mobile is the first mobile microsite built using Text a Librarian’s MobileMicro feature. To access the site, attendees text message the word INTLIB to 66746 from any web-enabled phone. Mosio will be using feedback from Information Today and conference attendees to improve the feature, currently in alpha stages of development. Beta launch of MobileMicro is scheduled for late fall 2009, adding it to the growing list of Text a Librarian features, which includes RefStart - a web-based reference application giving librarians customizable one-click access to reference tools, search, web 2.0 sites and popular social networks.

SOMERDALE, NJ, October 8, 2009: Library Automation Technologies, Inc. (LAT), a leader in library automation products, is pleased to announce it has updated its entire product line to allow libraries the ability to “communicate” with patrons via digital signage capability. This will take form as a free upgrade to all existing customers.
Without affecting the existing operation and patron interface, this upgrade allows existing self-serve systems to function as “digital signs” during their idle times.

This not only enhances the libraries’ ability to market its array of services and activities, but it also minimizes unnecessary hardware and staff expense to do so. By using an already provided LAT-Central™ Enterprise Management System (provided free of charge to all LAT customers), the library can control signage content of each individual system or in blocks. The content can be changed at any time.

Oleg Boyarsky, President and CEO of LAT commented "Libraries are changing and are evolving with the times. Like commercial enterprises, libraries must now market their value to their patrons. Instead of buying monitors, computers or creating a separate infrastructure to do that, we allow them the same capability using the equipment they already have; and, by the way, it’s FREE.”

LAT-Max™, LAT-MAXine™ and LAT-MAXwell™ is a family of self-service machines for libraries based on FlashScan™ technology. By providing multiple form-factors all with a same patron interface and multiple finishes, the machines allow libraries to take advantage of the modern self-service technology regardless of their physical space constraints. Coupled with an array of impressive features and capabilities, such as on-demand, field-upgradable RFID capability, desensitization support, wireless networking, included multi-language support, as well as over 400+ features and settings, these machines are installed in 100’s of libraries worldwide and have gained a solid, industry leading reputation for value. allCIRC™ product line is an extension of the FlashScan™ technology that allows total CD/DVD media security while simultaneously providing self-service for their patrons.

Equinox Software, Inc. and Biblibre Announce Partnership for Evergreen Support in Europe
    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
    Norcross, GA — October 12, 2009
Equinox Software Inc. and Biblibre are pleased to announce a partnership for Evergreen support in Europe. Evergreen, the consortial, open source library automation software, has an increasingly strong presence in North America, with many Evergreen libraries contracting for support and other services through Equinox Software. The partnership between Equinox Software and Biblibre provides a local company to assist European libraries with Evergreen implementations and technical support.
Bob Molyneux, Equinox Software Vice President of Business Development says “"We are very pleased to be working with Biblibre in exploring options for Evergreen among its potential customers. Biblibre's work in open source, particularly with Drupal and Koha, has given it an enviable reputation in practical implementation of open source solutions in libraries."
Nicolas Morin, CEO of BibLibre, says “Equinox is a natural partner for us as we feel both companies share a good amount of the same DNA: a young and very rapidly growing company, founded by people coming in large part but not exclusively from within the library itself, who set up shop with a mission to support libraries with Open Source software. We've been successful with this in Europe in the last few years and Equinox has been equally successful in the US.
“We feel that this relationship significantly extends the network of OS vendors working together to foster OS software in libraries, thus giving us all, collectively, more expertise, more tools, more skills and more knowledge to better serve libraries: none of us is or indeed intends, I think, to because one of the vendor behemoth of libraryland, but collectively OS communities can nevertheless become a powerful presence in this realm and we feel that this partnership with Equinox is an important step in that direction”.
