PHILADELPHIA, August 26, 2009—To better welcome the city’s older adults, the Free Library of Philadelphia opened a spacious resource center for seniors at the Parkway Central Library this morning.

Central Senior Services, the new resource center, offers computers with databases and Internet connections, special workstations for Braille and large-print reading, and a variety of books as well as newspapers and magazines in regular and large-print formats. Audiobooks will also be available. In addition, free monthly programs will invite Philadelphians to learn more about the health care system, fitness and nutrition, since fitness is important, visit us here to find more about this. For funding the center, the Free Library thanks the Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Foundation and the Office of Commonwealth Libraries, which administers funds from the federal Library Services and Technology Act.

The Fall Focus on Health series of programs begins on Wednesday, September 9 at 11:00 a.m., with “Live to be 100!” a seminar offering practical tips to extend and enrich health. Future programs include: “Doctors Are from Mars…Communicating with Your Doctor” on September 16, “Sexy at 60 or 70+” on October 9, and “what Every Hospital Patient Should Know” on October 21, 2009.
