Erikson Institute, the nation’s premier graduate school in child development, moves its library to the forefront with the latest RFID technology.

Norcross, Ga. – The Integrated Technology Group (ITG), a division of Vernon Library Supplies, Inc., installed radio frequency identification technology (RFID) at the Edward Neisser Library at Erikson Institute, the nation’s premier graduate school in child development. The new RFID system is designed to increase the amount of time staff members spend assisting students, as well as curb future personnel costs by automating routine tasks.

“Installing RFID technology and self-checkout kiosks has given our staff the freedom to do more than just monitor the circulation desk,” said Dr. Janet Lynch Forde, library director at the private institute in Chicago. “We are now spending more time providing one-on-one assistance to students, developing reading lists, conducting research and creating databases for students and teachers.”

The new system, which integrates with the library’s existing Alexandria integrated library system (ILS) software from COMPanion Corporation, includes the Apex XpressCheck™ patron self-service kiosks, Apex RFID™ security pedestals and the Apex PowerReader™ inventory wand.

“This technology vastly improves our inventory management,” said Forde. “Now that we have the RFID security system in place and the Apex PowerReader™ wand, we are easily able to keep track of all the items in our library.”
